Prunus ‘Thundercloud’, commonly known as purple-leaf plum or Thundercloud plum, is a deciduous ornamental tree valued for its striking foliage and early spring flowers. It forms a rounded to spreading habit with rich burgundy-purple leaves that provide strong contrast throughout the growing season. In early spring, before or as the foliage emerges, it produces masses of pale pink to soft blush-white flowers along the bare branches. Performs best in sheltered positions to protect early blossoms from late frosts. It is commonly used as a feature tree, in avenues, or for seasonal colour in gardens and streetscapes.
