Ophiopogon japonicus, commonly known as dwarf mondo grass, is a low-growing, tuft-forming evergreen perennial widely used as a groundcover. It typically forms dense clumps forming narrow, arching, dark green leaves that create a fine, grass-like texture. In summer, it produces small, pale lilac to white flowers tucked among the foliage, followed by shiny blue-black berries. Ophiopogon japonicus performs best with some moisture and protection from harsh afternoon sun. It is commonly used for mass planting, edging, underplanting trees and shrubs, and between pavers, valued for its durability, low maintenance, and year-round colour.
