Lophomyrtus obcordata is an evergreen shrub or small tree endemic to New Zealand. It typically grows up to 5 meters in height, featuring slender trunks with flaking greyish-pink bark. The plant bears small, thick, heart-shaped leaves. From November to March, it produces solitary white flowers followed by bright to dark red berries. Lophomyrtus obcordate thrives in coastal to montane forests and is often used in native reforestation projects and as an ornamental plant in gardens due to its attractive foliage and flowers. However, it is currently classified as "At Risk – Declining" due to threats like myrtle rust (Austropuccinia psidii), which poses a significant risk to its populations.
