Astelia ‘Silver Shadow’ is an evergreen, clump-forming perennial with striking silver-grey foliage and architectural form. A cultivar derived from New Zealand astelia species, it is not considered a naturally occurring New Zealand native, although its parent species are native. It forms dense rosettes of broad, arching leaves with a distinctive metallic sheen, creating a bold year-round presence. Small, greenish-yellow flowers are produced from spring to early summer, though they are relatively inconspicuous compared with the foliage. It is commonly used in contemporary landscapes, mass plantings, containers, and as a feature plant, where its contrasting foliage provides texture and structure.
