Astelia fragrans is the most common Astelia, and is also known as Bush Flax, Kakaha. This NZ Native is found in forest and scrub from the coast to about 900m in altitude. It has stiff, broad green leaves, and the orange berries on female plants attract birds. Hardier than A. chathamica. Prefers shelter and semi shade. Grows to approx 1.5m x 1.5m when mature.
