Alchemilla mollis, commonly known as lady’s mantle, is a hardy, clump-forming herbaceous perennial valued for its soft, rounded, scalloped leaves that are covered in fine hairs, giving them a velvety texture and the ability to hold water droplets. In early to mid-summer it produces airy sprays of small, chartreuse-yellow flowers held above the foliage, creating a light, frothy effect. It is deciduous in colder climates, dying back in winter, and is frost hardy. Alchemilla mollis is tolerant of a range of conditions once established, including periods of dryness. It is widely used in cottage gardens, borders, and mass plantings, as well as for edging paths and softening hard landscaping, where its foliage and flowers provide contrast to more structured planting.
