Commonly known as North Island Kowhai, this semi-evergreen only grows naturally only in the central east of the North Island. It flowers earlier and has larger blooms than S. Microphylla. It is a favourite with a lot of birds. Makes a stately small specimen tree when mature. More suited to moister areas. Grows to approx. 10m tall by 3m wide when mature.
