Carmichaelia australis is part of the common native broom family. It is an erect bush with tiny inconspicuous leaves and mauve flowers in spring. They are also part of the wider range of legumes, which fix nitrogen in the soil. This is used for increasing soil fertility. Broom is attractive to bees, and hardy. Grows to approx. 3m tall x 2.5m wide when mature.
